Have Questions About Home Health?

We Have Answers.

How much does this cost?

Medicare pays 100%. No deductibles or copays. Other health insurance often pays up to 100%. Home Touch Healthcare practices upfront pricing. We provide every patient with an easy-to-understand price list. For commercial health insurance, we verify coverage on the first business day each patient is in our care. As soon as your insurance company lets us know, we let you know of any applicable copays or deductibles. Home Touch Healthcare works with patients regarding copays and deductibles.

Who qualifies for this service?

To qualify for coverage under Medicare, patients should have the need for the skills of a registered nurse, physical therapist, or speech therapist, and they should be under the care of an MD, DO, or DPM for the home health diagnosis. Additionally, patients should find it difficult to leave home, such that the help of a device or person is required, and that trips are resultantly infrequent and short. We can help. Please contact us to discuss qualifications, services, and any other question.

Is all of this really necessary?

Yes. On average, research finds that patients who refuse home health referrals spend thousands more over the next year in avoidable healthcare costs. Patients who refuse home health have worse outcomes, more frequent ER and hospital visits, and higher mortality rates.

Do I have to go with the home health agency assigned to me?

Yes and no? Patients with traditional Medicare have the absolute right to choose any Medicare-certifed home health agency they want. This is true regardless of any company rules, quality of care organization, or other affiliation. Patients with commercial insurance, including Medicare Advantage plans, have often surrendered some of their right to choose and may be limited to certain lists of providers. To choose Home Touch Healthcare, contact us directly. We'll let you know your rights with your given insurance and handle all the arrangements for starting care with Home Touch.

Will I have to switch doctors?

Some home health agencies ask you to switch to their doctors. At Home Touch Healthcare, we believe it's best for you to choose your own doctor, and for you to be able to continue with trusted doctors who know you. We coordinate with your doctor to provide care under the orders of your doctor. We customize our care according to the preferences of your doctor, thereby extending your doctor's care into your home.

Will I know when to expect a nurse?

Yes. Our nurses, therapists, and aides may see a few different patients per day, spending ample time with each patient. You will know ahead of time what day and day part to expect each clinician. We will let you know if that schdule changes.

How much aide service will I receive?

We make aide service available for patients who need help with baths and some personal care activities. Home health aides vist one to three times per week, depending on our nurse's assessment of patient need. More extensive support for activities of daily living typically falls outside of what health insurance is designed to reimburse. For continuous, long-term, non-medical home care, we can help patients find a good personal care agency.

Is home health as good as facility-based care?

Yes. Studies tend to find that nursing, wound care, and rehab received in the home achieves results on par with what the same types of professionals could do for you in facilities. The choice of care environment has more to do with whether a patient is clinically stable and safe to live at home.
